Turkey witnessed a number of important developments in the 2010s, which we’ve left behind. The Turkish people went to polls for Constitution referendums in the 2010 and 2017 as well as general and local elections in 2011, 2014, 2015, 2018 and 2019. During this period, the country’s relations with foreign governments underwent a series of critical changes. The Syrian regime’s downing of Turkish jet in 2012, tensions with the Russian Federation in 2015 and 2016, disagreements with the United States about counter terrorism efforts and national security and unstable relations with the European Union left their mark on the 2010s.

In addition to those events, certain developments suc as the Arab Spring process and its aftermath, domestic turbulences in Syria and the strengthening of sub-state actors in our region due to the humanitarian crisis and irregular migration caused by this dispute took an important role in the history of 2010s. Turkey became the target of serious attacks of three major terrorist organizations (DAESH, PKK and FETÖ); however, Turkey has been fighting decisively to eliminate these threats.

Republic of Turkey is one of the countries most damaged by the terrorist attacks around the world. Our country which has been targeted by many terrorist organizations resorting to force in order to achieve certain goals in different periods, is still in the front line to fight against terrorism. Turkey has been struggling bitterly with terrorist organizations in its territory, as well as within the neighboring countries, Iraq and Syria. In addition, it continues its activities to raise awareness about terrorism and strengthen the international cooperation.
